The right burger wrapping paper is not selected by appearance alone. A useful specification starts with the food, the way staff use the sheet, the required grease resistance, the finished size and the printing plan.

This guide explains what a restaurant chain, distributor, bakery or food-packaging buyer should prepare before requesting a custom quote.

1. Start with the food and service situation

A freshly prepared burger, a deli sandwich and a basket liner do not place the same demands on paper. Tell the supplier what will touch the paper and how the food will be served.

Useful details include:

  • whether the food is hot or at room temperature;
  • whether it contains oil, butter, cheese or sauce;
  • whether the paper fully wraps the food or only lines a tray;
  • how long the food normally remains wrapped;
  • whether it is used for dine-in, takeaway or delivery.

These details help determine the required grease resistance and practical wrapping format. Do not copy a paper specification simply because another restaurant uses it for a different food.

2. Decide how the sheet will be used

Burger paper can be used for full burger wrapping, sandwich wrapping, tray liners, basket liners and snack presentation. A full wrap needs enough coverage for staff to fold it securely around the product. A liner should fit the tray or basket without excessive waste.

If you already use packaging, measure an unused flat sheet rather than estimating from the burger diameter alone. Provide the finished width and length in millimetres or inches. A photo of the current wrapping method can also prevent misunderstandings.

3. Confirm performance before selecting paper details

“Greaseproof” is a performance requirement, not a complete purchasing specification. Ask the supplier to confirm the recommended paper route, available grammage, direct-food-contact suitability for the target market and how folds, sauces, heat and holding time affect the recommendation.

Xucheng does not currently claim company-held certifications. If your market requires a specific food-contact document or test, state it before quotation so availability can be checked with the selected material and production partner.

Understand the main material routes

  • Natural greaseproof paper develops oil resistance through the paper-making process and dense fibre structure.
  • Treated or barrier-coated paper uses a surface treatment or functional coating to improve resistance to oil, grease or moisture.
  • Waxed tissue paper adds a wax layer and may be considered for juicy burgers and hot sandwiches.
  • Laminated structures can combine paper with PE or foil when stronger moisture protection or heat retention is required.
  • Untreated menu tissue can suit low-grease uses but is not a substitute for high-grease wrapping paper.

The correct route depends on the food, holding time, temperature, wrapping method and destination-market requirements.

Do not select grease resistance by grammage alone

Public food-wrap and barrier-paper examples range from lightweight sheets in the mid-20s and 30s gsm to heavier 40–80 gsm barrier papers. This does not mean a heavier sheet automatically provides better grease resistance.

Fibre structure, surface treatment, coating, folds, heat, sauces and contact time all affect performance. Test the proposed paper with the actual food before approving a bulk order. Xucheng can coordinate project-specific grammage; the final recommendation is confirmed around the application and sample result.

4. Plan printing around the packaging job

Custom burger paper can carry a logo, repeating pattern, brand colors or product messages. The artwork should remain readable after the sheet is folded.

Confirm the number of print colors, repeating or fixed-position layout, print coverage, design direction during wrapping and any production color reference. AI, PDF or EPS artwork normally provides the cleanest starting point. A high-resolution JPG or PNG can begin the discussion but may need to be recreated before production.

5. Use a sample to check the real wrapping result

A digital mockup checks layout, but it cannot replace testing the finished sheet with the actual food and wrapping method.

Available stock samples are free, with freight paid by the buyer. A custom printed sample is charged first, and the sample fee is credited after a bulk order.

After receiving usable artwork during China working hours, the target for the first digital mockup is within 3 hours. After visual approval and payment of the sampling fee, the target is to dispatch a custom sample within 7 days. After sample approval and payment, most custom orders dispatch from the factory within 30 days. These timings depend on complete project information, approval, payment and the selected specification.

Frequently asked questions

Can size and printing be customized?

Yes. Sheet size, paper selection, grease-resistance requirement, printing and packing quantity are confirmed around the project. Final feasibility is checked before sampling.

What grammage should I choose?

There is no single correct grammage for every burger. Begin with the food, grease level, wrapping time, finished size and material route. A lightweight treated sheet may perform differently from a heavier untreated paper.

Can I receive a sample first?

Yes. Available stock samples are free with freight paid by the buyer. Custom printed samples are charged first, and the fee is credited after a bulk order.
